Historical Significance:

The Krupps were known for their production of steel, artillery, and ammunition in Germany.  In 1811, Friedrich Krupp founded a plant that produced cast steel.  Under his son, Alfred, and grandson, Friedrich Alfred, the company grew into Krupp AG, one of the world’s top steelmakers and arms manufacturers until the end of World War II.  Krupp AG merged with Thyssen in 1997, creating thyssenkrupp, one of the world’s biggest flat steel producers and an engineering leader in the global steel industry today.
