The list of National Historic Landmark properties along South First Avenue includes
several key residential and office buildings that played a significant role in the
development of Lukens.
The proximity of these homes and offices to the mill reflects the Lukens and
Huston families’ long-standing commitment to living and working close to the
factory and the community. These structures and the mill tell the story of the home
and work life of company owners through the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
Surrounding these core elements is the City of Coatesville. Here, too, much of
the historic fabric remains, with approximately one third of the city’s properties
listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
