During the war, the Young Men’s Christian Association established “huts” in Europe to care for the fighting troops. In May 1917, it was announced that Coatesville would sustain a YMCA “hut”.  A. F. Huston (President) and C. L. Huston (Vice President) of Lukens Steel Company each pledged $2,500 to fund Coatesville’s “hut.”
