SEDCO/BP 471 was a conventional drill ship for six years. In 1984, she was renamed JOIDES Resolution and was converted into a scientific research vessel. She continues to aid in drilling projects for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP). Lukens supplied 294 tons of ABS Section 43 Grade DS structural quality plate for the lower hull plates which were exposed to ice and low temperatures.
