Jet Lowe: Handling the Heat: how iron and steel making bridged us to the Space Age.

Jet Lowe will present a survey on industries whose operation depended on harnessing heat in very specific ways.  His discussion will cover the span of his work over a thirty-five-year period of time for the Historic American Engineering Record on the production of iron, steel, and various metals that came under the view of his lenses over this time.  In reflecting on this time and on this work he hopes that it will become apparent that a certain cohesion will reveal itself in a body of work that bookend iron furnaces on one end of this time span with the metallurgy of aircraft and rocket engines at the other.
