The National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum
Rebecca Lukens, First Female Industrialist
In 1825, the first boilerplate was rolled at Brandywine Iron Works in Coatesville- powering the first steam ships in America.

A woman named Rebecca Lukens transformed the iron works to become a leading producer of this important product using practical business sense rooted in her Quaker grounding. Also important to her success was the geography of the area.

Students will learn anout these topics using maps and replica boilerplate from an in-costume interpreter.
